When you have the right people in your team, you just know it. These people don’t just do their jobs, but they also help others be the best they can be. It’s indeed a luxury to have superstar employees.

The biggest challenge you’ll face as a manager is how to retain them. There’s no doubt that your competitors are on the lookout and are just waiting for a chance to take your best employees from you.

So, how are you supposed to know if your best employee is seriously considering leaving you?

1. Think about how you treat your star employees

You treat your clients in a very special way to make sure they’ll stick with you – you offer them benefits and privileges that other customers don’t get to have. Well, you should do the same to your best workers. It doesn’t matter what bonuses you offer, what’s important is that you make them feel how valuable they are to your team.

2. Look at their habits

As human beings, we all tend to follow the same habits and routines. If you take a closer look at your members’ routines, you will be able to know if there are changes in what they’re doing and how they do things around. If your best employee suddenly acts differently, and his or her output isn’t as good as in the past, something must be going on.

3. Pay attention to your important clients

If your best employee is handling clients, whose transactions with your company seem to be declining, then there’s a possibility that your star employee isn’t doing what he or she is supposed to do. You may need to become a detective to know the facts related to this, but being attentive to such things will help you spot who’s being disloyal to you and the organization.


4. Observe the use of private emails

If an employee suddenly prefers to use personal emails to contact clients, this could be a valid reason for you to doubt their loyalty. It is also possible that they are trying to hide something from you, such as soliciting your clients. This is something you need to pay more attention to as this could eventually cause you to lose your important clients.

5. Always check employee morale

As they say, prevention is always better than cure. Thus, management has to check from time to time if the employees, especially the best ones, are fulfilled, well-compensated, and challenged enough in their work. By ensuring they are satisfied with their job in your organization, there’s no reason you should worry about them leaving you for another company. Keeping them happy in your company could be the only way you can stop your best employees from moving on.
