Five Ways to Bury Fear This Month

Fear.

It means a lot of things. For some, it is a trigger to give up and for others, it is a trigger to push forward. Being a Taurus (May babies, high-five), I often feel it is a trigger to keep going, to push through the BS to what I want. I truly believe everything we want IS on the other side of fear.

False. Expectations. Appearing. Real.

Fear also means that. It can mean 100 other safe and not so safe for work things but it does means something to every one of us.

You can let it stop you or you can use it as motivation for your intentions.

Did you make a vision board? This year, I did mine before the ball dropped and I am so glad I did. Knocking that to-do off my list before December 31 was a true pleasure. Why? Because I felt focused and ready to go into the new year with a fresh slate.

January is often a month where we still feel that fresh, inspired energy. By February, we’re cold, tired and counting down the days to Memorial Day. For those of us who are single, it can also bring about a whole host of emotions, good, bad and ugly.

Here are five ways you can bury fear this month and renew your commitment to your resolutions to have the best year, ever!

Self Love Comes First

February is about finding, giving and feeling the love but you can’t feel the love or give love to anyone if you don’t love YOU first. Self Love comes in many forms, maybe it’s about treating yourself to a great dinner or a night of doing absolutely nothing. It could be finding time to meditate in a busy day or giving yourself the gift of an extra, fancy coffee in the evening. Whatever makes YOU feel loved, that’s one great way to #BuryFear. The more love you have for yourself and your life, the more love you can give and the more focused you will be.

Get Outta Here!

Even a quick 24-hour change of scenery will do you a world of good. A staycation is also great, but changing up the scenery, especially if you work from home, is very important! How far you go is up to you, but even if it’s just to a coffee shop in another part of town, changing up your view is a great way to #BuryFear. It reminds you that there are many lives to be lived AND opens you up to new possibilities.

Summer Dreams

Take out a piece of paper and write down 6 things that you want to be true in 6 months from now. Six months, depending on when you do this is either July or August. Think about what you want to be true about your life and then, plot out one thing you’ll do for each goal every month. That way, you not only have the goals, but the action plan to achieve them!

Take a Break

If you can’t get away for a few days, simply power down for a day or an afternoon. The best way to do this is to actually take a Mental Health Day and shut off your phone. This isn’t possible for everyone, I know, and, sometimes, it actually makes you more anxious to be that disconnected. There’s a hack for that -- start small. Try leaving your phone on silent for a half hour, then an hour and so on. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to leave your phone in your pocket for extended periods of time and truly get a break.

Kindness and Forgiveness

Burying fear is about squashing the thoughts of “I can’t,” “I shouldn’t,” and “I’m not enough.” You are enough, you can and yes, you should! Taking time to fight your fears may seem trivial at first, but once you take the first step, you’ll realize you deserve every second of time you give yourself, no matter how long or short of a time period it is. And, if you can’t step away from your phone or take time to unplug? Be kind and forgive yourself. That’s the best way to bury fear because once the negative thoughts stop, fear has no fuel.
