Did you know where you work has a huge impact on how you work? It’s true, your office space affects your ability to focus, to stay focused, and how productive you are. This means regardless of if you work at home or in a corporate environment, the design of your space matters.

Do you want to create a space that encourages productivity and creativity? While creating the perfect office environment may seem like a challenge, it doesn’t have to be.

Here, you will find some helpful tips and advice to ensure your office is productive, regardless of where you work or what you do.

The Lighting

One of the most important ways to improve productivity in your Toronto Office Space is by adjusting the lighting. The right lighting can help you feel inspired and motivated. Even though this is true, it’s still one of the most overlooked and the least invested in factors.

If you are working in bad lighting it can cause headaches, eyestrain, fatigue, and irritability. Even worse, dark spaces can cause depression.

Unfortunately, if you work in a large office building, you probably don’t have much control over your lighting. You can still change the bulbs in your office to LEDs or a more natural glow, or even use a light therapy device. If you work from home, open your doors and windows to let natural light in. Make sure if you are working in the evening, you have a soft bulb in your work area to mimic the sun.

Ergonomics

Do you work at a desk and find yourself having to stretch, move, and adjust your position so much you can’t remain focused? If so, you know how important it is to have a comfortable work area. With so many people sitting for the majority of their workday, it’s essential to have a chair that provides support where it is most needed.

There are some general guidelines you can follow to ensure your office is providing you with the ergonomics you need. For example, you should sit so your eyes are 24 to 36 inches away from your computer screen and your feet should be resting on the floor or on a footrest. It’s also best to choose a chair that will recline slightly, as this will reduce the pressure on your spine while helping to reduce lower back pain

Clutter

It’s important to have a clean work area. While clutter may help spur creativity, it isn’t always beneficial for productivity or focus.

If you are working in a large office, you can’t control how clean everyone is, but you can keep your space neat and organized. Take five to 10 minutes every morning or evening to make sure everything is put away, organized, filed, and out of sight so you don’t get distracted by it later.

If you are working from home, your entire house or apartment may be a distraction. If you have the money for it, a professional cleaning service is beneficial to keep things neat and tidy. If not, schedule a day to clean up.

The Color of Your Room

Did you know the surrounding color can affect your brain function and mood? It can evoke both an emotional and physical response. This means selecting the right colors for your work area can impact your productivity.

For example, there are some studies that have shown blue increases productivity. Keep in mind though, too much of anything can get overwhelming, so don’t overdo it with a single color.
