Veteran Owned Businesses Shape the Future Economy

There are more than 2.4 million businesses operated by veterans nationwide, according to the SBA 2012 Veterans Report. Small businesses throughout the country are the lifeblood of our nation’s economy. There is a growing trend towards veteran entrepreneurship. Veteran business owners are integral part of America’s small business sector. After serving the nation, many veterans return home and choose to start a business. Veteran entrepreneurs are making great contributions to creating new businesses and in turn helping American economy grow.

“The returning warrior may not realize it, but he has acquired an MBA in enduring adversity and a PhD in resourcefulness, tenacity and the capacity for hard work.” – Steven Pressfield. The veterans are highly skilled in discipline, leadership and teamwork. The skills derived from military training are unparalleled in civilian life. They have worked hard in high pressure environment to accomplish the missions at all costs. These men and women have the organizational skills, risk-tolerance and leadership abilities to kick start and grow their businesses. The veteran entrepreneurs chase their passion and continue to serve the country by creating employment and spurring the economic growth.

With over 21 million veterans in America transitioning from military annually, the U.S. small business administration and resource partners are working together and investing in programs and initiatives to empower veterans and their family to bring their business ideas a reality. The veteran’s service organizations, federal agencies, non profits, public and private sector sponsors are working closely to ensure that these aspiring vets have access to funds, counseling and contracting needed to start and grow successful businesses. Entrepreneurial training programs and workshops are launched to support, educate and train the current and future veteran business owners. These offerings can help the vets translate their skills, leadership and experience into successful businesses.

America owes an immense debt of gratitude to our war heroes. These brave veterans have sacrificed their lives to defend our country and it is our national promise to help veterans transition back into civilian life and the working world. We have the responsibility to help the veterans build their businesses. Respecting the brave patriots and helping them realize their dreams is the right thing we can do for our vets.

Let’s Salute our Heroes and Work Together to Empower America’s Veterans through Entrepreneurship.
