A manager can be considered a role model if he or she has the ability to inspire the people who work around them. This kind of leader is excellent not only in various aspects of a business, but also in terms of dealing with employees. Unfortunately, not every manager is a role model. If you want to be one, you need to work on improving the following skills so you could inspire your employees.
1. Positive Attitude
Being optimistic doesn’t mean you’re not supposed to have a bad day. However, as a leader, you should be able to demonstrate calmness, perseverance and strength especially during the most stressful times. Having a good, positive attitude will influence your employees, which means that they will be more capable of troubleshooting problems and overcoming any adversity at work.
You need to be worthy of your employees’ trust if you want to be respected. It will be hard for you to expect the best from your workers is you don’t stay true to your word and remain honest with them. When you’ve earned and built trust from your employees, it won’t be hard for you to gain their loyalty as well.
As a manager, you are expected to make important decisions that can affect the future of your organization. In making such decisions, you want to get the trust of your employees, and you can only do this if they see integrity in your decision-making and in your actions. A good leader is someone who gives credit where it’s due, and is someone that takes responsibility for their actions.
Your employees are not robots that you can just expect to deliver results. They are human beings whom you can interact with. No matter how busy you are, it’s important that you spare some time to address the concerns of your team members. Make them feel your presence and make them feel that you are the leader who they can turn to any time of the day.
Remember that your workers play a huge part in the success of your organization. You want them to feel that you respect and care for them just as much as they do for you. You may show this by trying to get to know them on a more personal level. Utilize coffee or lunch breaks to chat with them, as them about their families, their background, and so on. Doing this will make them feel that you are interested in them and that you don’t treat them as mere laborers.
When combined, all these traits make up a role model manager. This is a kind of manager that workers will look up to, respect, and get inspiration from. By becoming this type of leader, you can develop employees who will do their best to become better not only for themselves, but for the company as well.
