Your Ability to Work With Negativity Will Make You Stronger

Working with negativity begins with negotiation skills but from your vantage point. The most important value to hold in mind is what your ultimate vision will encompass. Take time to write down your biggest vision and list all that it will include. Hold the complete picture in your mind at all times. This will help to keep you balanced when negative comments are directed your way.

Negotiation includes at least two different viewpoints, several, or the entire objective involved. Successful salespeople are able to itemize all possible points of contention in order to find an agreeable solution for each. As the improvements are made so are the sales.

The main point to remember when sitting at the table is to not cave into everything the other party demands for fear of losing the sale. An improved approach is to hear everything out in full, and then begin asking many questions about what was relayed.

A deeper understanding will reveal a poor past experience or a lack of recognizing on how processes have improved over time. You may also discover the other party fears trying something new. But by working to uncover all of the red flags on the other person’s part, you will soon be able to turn them around into green flags allowing you to move forward.

In addition to serving clientele well, you may be focused on new projects possibly requiring a new methodology for accomplishment. Your peers may give you a tough time about it not working and that you are wasting your time. The truth is, that if you don’t do it your way, you may well waste even more time thinking about ‘what if I had tried…’

Several possibilities exist when you do try:

  • Your new project doesn’t work but you recognize why. You now understand the better way to proceed having inadvertently developed a blueprint for what works best.
  • Audiences at large observe your work and will be more inclined to follow you upon seeing your continuing dedication to your work.
  • Positive feedback will be provided as you continue and surprise opportunities will come about.
  • Over time, you build larger followings and increased possibility for your ultimate vision.
  • You do find success and suddenly find yourself in the leadership spotlight.
  • The difference between leaders and followers is the willingness to persevere against all negativity and odds in order to put your unique ideas in motion to achieve true success. The true success is having done it your way and becoming the recognized leader.
