Some days it seems like everyone is busy chasing their unicorn.

The dream client that throws wads of cash at you while you do your greatest work.

The perfect (business or otherwise) mate, partner, side-kick (one of my pals is ever on the look-out for her sensitive-artist-genius-lumberjack future husband).

Yep, we all want the unicorn.

But what if YOU are the unicorn?

What if you are the one that your dream clients are desperately searching for?

How would that change your life?

Can you see it?

Or more importantly, can you feel it?

Here’s how it might unfurl (and yes, this happened to me last week and it’s not the first time).

Your client finds you, seemingly by magic (in my case, the sorcerer was Twitter). You have a single meeting (skype, a phone call, a drop-in) where you bond like white on rice. You confirm the details, send a bill, get paid and start work within 24 hours.

All because you are the unicorn. YOU are the one they’ve been looking for and when they finally find you, there’s no more thinking or jousting required. They just know. In fact, it might be one of the most exciting meetings either of you will ever have. It’s a mutual love-fest and it feels ab-so-lutely marvelous.

So how do you become the unicorn?

Well you can start by channeling this Oprah quote: “I had no idea that being my authentic self could make me so rich. Otherwise I’d have done it a lot earlier.”

But for most of us, being authentic is just the opener. It takes more. Much more.

It takes understanding your highest value talents and passions that—important caveat—you are thrilled to deliver.

It takes knowing which sweet-spot clients, readers or buyers will be delighted to connect with you.

It takes translating the genuine you AND your highest talents and passions AND your best audience into a singular voice.

Think of it as finding your true voice. In what—and how—you speak, write and express yourself across every single medium you can think of. Including in real life.

Luckily, we get better with practice.

So why not take a risk?

Commit to your point of view out loud (think manifesto). Embrace your personality instead of running from it. Celebrate the things that make you, well, you.

Because you deserve to be THE unicorn to your dream audience.
