Advisorpedia interviewed Dale Brown, President & CEO of the Financial Services Institute, at the FSI OneVoice Conference in February, 2022.
"Our Diversity and Inclusion Initiative is focused on a one very clear and compelling goal. We must work together to identify ways to help get people of color and women into the financial advice profession.
We are very passionate that every American should have access to affordable, objective advice. And just about everyone prefers to do business with someone that looks like them. And so there's a tremendous opportunity to serve communities that traditionally aren't served well. So we're focused on bringing the power of FSI that that comes in the form of 90 member firms and 30,000 financial advisors who are ready to get engaged in this movement.
And so we're partnering with our first strategic partnership is with a great organization called INROADS. They've got a 50 plus year track record of helping students of color, get in through paid in short term internships, identify career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities. And you know, they've got 30,000 alumni across the country, there's a lot of synergy to be had there. And that's going to be a great first step in this never ending pursuit of this important goal.
It's important to remember that everything we do centers around first, are passionate about access to advice, and our mission of advocacy. We're about helping shape and create a regulatory environment that works for Main Street investors works for the professionals in the in the industry. And so our Diversity and Inclusion Initiative is a key part of that we've got to partner with the regulators to lower barriers for investors to access advice we've got to to create a modernize the rules so that firms and advisory firms can can identify new advisors and bring them in and get them started in the profession."
